Duration of the project was 11 months October 2010-August 2011. The project interventions includes: - Cash for work support to 3000 beneficiaries: Under the cash for work program, 3000 beneficiaries were supported for four months and each of the three thousands beneficiaries were provided Pak rupees 5600, on monthly basis. The 2550 men cash for work beneficiaries worked on rehabilitation of the flood damaged infrastructures and 459 infrastructures were rehabilitated which benefiting 55,188 household. Similalrly, 450 women benefited from this program. - Provision of agriculture inputs and tools to 7100 flood affected farmers and their capacity building on integrated crop management and integrated pest management.
The project has quite good contribution and helped in food security of target households both at short-term and medium term levels. On short-term level, flood affected families having no options of livelihood were provided temporary employment opportunities through cash for work. On the medium term level, rehabilitation of agriculture infrastructure i.e. desiltation of water courses, repair of irrigation channel, protection walls to agriculture land, reclamation of the agriculture field, access road, pathways and provision of agriculture inputs along with capacity building of farmers have a greater contribution. These long terms efforts may include reconstruction of the agriculture infrastructure with particular focus on its disaster risk reduction philosophy, the diversification of means of food availability/access and nutritional aspects of food because these areas are facing challenges of chronic food and nutrition insecurity prior to these disasters.
