LASOONA: Society for Human & Natural Resource Development- a local NGO and in partnership with Oxfam-GB initiated Emergency Flood Response Project from 30th July. The project will carry out Water, Sanitation and Hygiene activities in worse affected Union Councils of Swat. In first phase of the project clean water tankers having the capacity of 16000 gallons of water have been deployed and the supply of water from TMA sources started.
Till Thursday evening 770,000 liters of drinking water has been supplied to households in different union councils of Mingora city and peripheries, which include Union Council Saidu Sharif, Faiz Abad, Malook Abad, Rang Mohallah, Banr, Shahdara and Landay Kas. This phase will continue till restoration of electric supply to the target UCs.
In addition, registration of flood affected families has been started in the target UCs. The affected families will be provided with hygiene kits. Awareness campaign regarding hygiene practices promotion is in full swing.
The damaged water supply schemes of TMA and PHED which need quick fixing are under construction. Till now four number of PHED schemes have been restored. Two number of camps of displaced people have been provided with clean drinking water scheme in Union council, Islampur.
Due to lack of electricity all of the tube wells are non- functional. For running the tube well the TMA and PHED generators will be provided with fuel for which MoU has been signed.
The distribution of 15000 water purification sachets has been completed in target union councils. Moreover, various teams have been already constituted to start assessment related to WASH needs of the people in affected area of upper Swat. About 1000 Hygiene and household kits will be distributed in the next two days.
